It wasn't looking overly good at the beginning, as the day before I was heading to Calgary, Quila and Jada, my daughters Boston Terrier, wanted out of the trabin at 3 am ....so I opened the door and let them out ....a few minutes later I smelt skunk!!! Not good...they came running in the trabin and so now I have a stinky trabin and two dogs. As soon as the stores opened I was off for supplies...just so you all know the rememdy for skunk it is hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap...( 1 bottle, 1/4-1/2c baking soda and a big squirt of soap). Also wear gloves!! You need to leave it on for awhile...about 1/2 hour and may need to redo. I found the face the hardest as you don't want to get it in the eyes ....Quila still smells a little on the head, but tolerable!
Anyways off to Calgary we went....the dogs already had two baths each....Quila got another one the next day before the show....and one more during the show....she wasn't overly impressed but did smell better!! I don't think anyone noticed her odor but me as I knew it was there. So thursday and friday at the show it was really cold and wet....try keeping 4 light goldens clean in that!! Not to mention that we were freezing! Quila didn't do anything with the judges on friday or saturday but sunday she got Winners Bitch...yah hoo 4 more points and now she only needs one more point under one more judge and she has her title!!
Monday was the last day of the show....do I dare hope we can finish her?? Well first I should mention the weather turned hot on Sat...and was getting warmer each day....Monday was 31 degrees!! So there is my breeder, Shannon, running around the ring with the dogs....one at a time ....in 31 degree weather!! We were all tired and almost said lets not bother but we were there so on we go. Quila is up....she takes first in her class....she has done this alot but gets reserve or less in the next class where the points are....but this time she took Winners Bitch again....she has her title....I am so happy that I almost miss that she is in the ring again and wins Best of Winners!! What a weekend....couldn't be happier!!
So now we are doing all her tests to make sure she doesn't have anything genetic that we don't want to pass on and then we plan on breeding her in a year....one puppy to stay with me!!
So I have to say that I was just starting to like the conformation shows and getting to know some of the people...so will miss it but will be back with a puppy in a year!!
I still plan on completing Quila's Rally Novice title this year....and possibly her TD ....tracking title....we will see about that . Of course first and formost is her search and rescue training.....
