SEARCH AND RESCUE WITH A LITTLE NAVIGATION

Well today at Search and Rescue we did some of our probationary testing...I wasn't sure I was ready for it...thought it would be next week , but glad I didn't have time to stress over it. We passed the first two tests, now just to finish up the rest next week. Today we did the obedience and article search tests...we did good...during the article search it was pouring raining, really windy and the grass we were searching was over a foot high...Quila still got the items...so all is good. We do need to continue to improve on her article search and make it more exciting for her....in order to get that high drive.
Next week we will do the vechile test...numerous dogs and handlers in the vechile with us...then we change postitions so that I am not beside her...and they will lift and carry her. We will also do an agility test...as it is important that the dogs can go thur, under and over trees, tunnels etc. when doing searches. I feel confident that we will pass all the tests and then be off of probation....

 Although I didn't take to many pictures at training due to the raining...I did get a couple ....here is a dog finding me ....I was tucked away in a piece of equipment

Here we have a few members and and one of their dogs.They are working on HR,human remains, training in water....they have put a item ( no not a body part!!) in the water in the ditch. It was very interesting watching the dogs .

After the morning training a number of us went with Steve for navigation training with compasses and GPS's...it was fun and really good for me as I have no sense of direction

 Now we are using our GPS ....not as easy as you would think....especially when Steve tells us the markers we are finding aren't in the bush....really Steve ....then why did we find them in the bush?

MY GIRLS AT THE TRABIN

Well have spent the last couple of days at my Trabin,(trailer turned cabin) and the girls have had a great time.

The girls could not wait for their private pool to fill before trying out the water

Tanen , always the more adventurous of the two, jumps right in

Now they are stopping to smell the flowers...unfortunately Tanen is trying to eat the bees....she is allergic!!

Tanen has the favorite spot...as they have dug down to the dirt...so it is nice and cool....they keep taking turns as to who gets to lay there...Tanen's turn right now.

It is okey, as Quila likes the view from the top steps....just chillin ....taking in the day

  When is the dog show?? Does this mean I have to have another bath?

   Now this is what happens when you take your clean goldens to a field to run!!

                    You don't need to worry ....we know where the pond is !! We are hardly dirty now!

                                        Well they are looking a little better....but the water doesn't !

                      

                        We had a wonderful, relaxing time....don't forget to stop and smell the flowers!

OBEDIENCE TRAINING MAY 6,2012

Well it was a very windy day....but the dogs didn't mind. They are all doing well and it is interesting to see the young pups settle down and get to work...they sure go home tired. It is alot of mental and physical work for them.

Everyone is enjoying working with their dogs to make them a better pet and companion.

MY GIRLS

I just thought I should put a picture of both my girls...I seem to be doing alot with Quila and keep forgetting to get pictures of Tanen. Tanen is a beautiful girl and has numerous titles herself. I didn't start doing anything formal with Tanen till she was about 6 or 7 yrs old. Not because I couldn't but because I had never done anything in the ring before. I was lucky to make the friendship of a trainer in Stettler, Lorrie Stayura, we began going to shows together and supporting each other in our training and showing of our , at that time, two dogs.
So to introduce my two dogs...first is Egers Von Tanenbaum....or Tanen for short .She was born Nov 4,2002 She has her TDI, CGN, PCD,RN and RA....basically she has done rally obedience and obedience ...she is also a registered therapy dog. I do work her but don't show her anymore as she lost interest in being in the ring....I might see if she wants to do some more rally this year.

Second is Coppermoon Tequila Sunrise...or Quila as we call her. Quila was born May 24, 2010. At this time she has her TDI and CGN...in short she is a registered therapy dog. She is currently working on her conformation title and rally novice title....I hope to have both by the end of summer. Quila and I are also in training for Search and Rescue....we do our probation testing this month...wish us luck. Quila will also do her TD tracking title in Sept...hopefully we pass.

My dogs give me great pleasure and I love working with them. They have also taught me so much and introduced me to so many new things in my life.

NORTHERN ALBERTA CANINE ASSOC DOG SHOW JUNE 1-4, 2012

After tracking at Michelle's I headed off to Shannon's ,my breeder, to get Quila bathed and groomed before heading to Edmonton for the show

Here are the five dogs we are taking to the show....are they lining up for their baths?

Quila was second in line and wasn't thrilled when she found out coming in the house meant a bath!!

I guess I do look pretty good...maybe it was worth it!

Once we arrived in Edmonton we headed over to the show and set up our tents, dog crate, grooming table etc...alot of stuff....didn't get any pictures as we were too busy setting up...it was then off to the hotel and getting the dogs feed and all of us to bed. Now remember there are five dogs, my breeder, Shannon and myself in the room...

First we have to get all the dogs into the room....after a potty break, this is only four of the five dogs.

Unfortunately the patties weren't thawed...so in the tub with hot water they go...you should have seen the line up outside that bathroom door!!

Qula thought her bath the other day was enough but apparently not!  So more grooming and fluffing!

Well Saturday night we found a field that we thought would be good for the dogs to have a run in....they badly needed a good run. We didn't see the water until it was too late...but they had a great time.

I hope they know this means more baths!!

Here Quila is in the ring with Shannon on Sunday. This is Judge, Gloria Kerr who choose Quila as winners bitch. This was Quila's first points....and she got five....which is really good. This was a special win as it was her first and under this judge...as well in a very large group of goldens.

Doesn't she move beautifully and look so pretty!

 

Now it is picture time with Shannon and the Judge...just getting set up here...will post the actual one once I get it.

Going to try and recap here....not really good at all the title names...so forgive me Shannon:

Well it was a awesome weekend with lots of excitement...Jethro a nine month old that Shannon owns did really well...getting BOW and BPIB on friday and then BOW and Best Puppy at the GRCAlberta Specialty on Saturday. Then Isla , co-owned by Shannon got 2nd bred by exhibitor on saturday and Reserve WB on Sunday.. Quila got 2nd open bitch on Saturday and  Winners Bitch on Sunday. Gidget, also owned by Shannon , got 4th in veteran bitch....on saturday. Quila also got her first leg in Rally Novice....so all in all a great weekend for the Coopermoon Kennel!!

TRACKING MAY 30

Well it has been a very busy week , but also a really fun and rewarding week.
I stop on my way to calgary at Michelle's where we , Michelle, Kristine and I , did a blind track each. Everytime we get the opportunity to do these tracks we learn something. Whether it is about our handling, the dogs ablities or just swapping tips...it is always fun and rewarding. It is really exciting to see each of us and our dogs growing and getting better everytime we are together.

As we waited for Kristine to arrive Michelle hide some articles for Quila. They were about an hour old when I put her to work looking for them. She found all three with no problem and she did great alerts. It was a good job by Quila as there were three dogs looking out the window barking at her and she went to work anyways.

Now we went out and laid our tracks for each other....making a map so that we will remember where we went! We each lay a track following the person's instructions on what they need on the track for their dog...more or less treats etc.  The tracks were 400-450 in length.

Here I am with Quila...she is moving along nicely. Notice the nice distance that I am working behind her and that the line is taunt but not tight.

Now Kristine and Teah are on the track. Once again notice the line and Kristine's distance from Teah. Teah definitely has the track and is working hard.

I have to say ...what a nice picture with the yellow flowers , ok maybe they are dandelions, and the beautiful sky.  In this picture you can see Ash working the track....no she isn't smelling the flowers!

Well after having a great time running the tracks we decided to have a little fun and take some pictures of our beautiful dogs....
